There’s something about a summer wedding that feels magical—the long golden light, the electric energy of friends and family coming together, and the kind of joy that lingers long after the last song plays. Erika and Eric’s wedding at the White Poplar was exactly that—a day filled with heartfelt moments, wild dance moves, and the kind of love that makes you believe in forever.
But let’s be real—July weddings can also be hot. And by hot, I mean the kind of heat that makes you appreciate every bit of shade, every cold drink, and every strategic photography break. Keeping Erika and Eric (and their wedding party!) cool and comfortable was a priority, and we made sure to build in moments to step into the AC, hydrate, and keep everyone looking and feeling their best. No melting allowed!
Eric and his groomsmen were first up for the day, Kirsten (KT Films) and I met at the house Eric and Erika share together. You could feel the anticipation in the air—this wasn’t just about getting dressed; it was about stepping into one of the biggest moments of their lives! Sharing laughs, adjusting ties, and taking in the moment.
We drove over to meet the girls in the White Poplar’s charming getting-ready suite, where Erika and her bridesmaids buzzed with excitement. There’s something about the pre-wedding energy—music playing, champagne popping, final touches on hair and makeup—that always feels electric. Erika looked absolutely stunning in her classic gown, effortlessly elegant yet modern, with delicate details that made her shine.
One of my favourite things about wedding mornings is the mix of emotions. The big belly laughs. The deep breaths before stepping into the dress. The way a parent looks at their child, suddenly realizing how much they’ve grown. And on this particular day? The excitement was contagious!
Erika opted to do a first look with her bridesmaids before her first look with Eric! As she stepped out of the cottage, a hush fell over her closest friends, anticipation written all over their faces. And then—pure magic. The moment they saw her, they erupted in cheers, happy tears, and tight hugs.
These are the moments that make weddings so special—the people who have been by your side through every milestone, suddenly seeing you as a bride. Erika’s bridesmaids showered her with love, admiration, and a whole lot of excitement, and capturing that energy was an absolute joy!
Erika + Eric opted to do a first look, which I always recommend if you’re open to it! First looks allow you to spend more time with your partner, and your people!
They also chose to exchange vows in private—but with a twist. Instead of deciding who would go first, they settled it the only fair way: a round of rock-paper-scissors. (Spoiler alert: Erika won!)
These intimate moments are what make wedding days so special. Just the two of them, soaking in the reality of what was about to happen, with nothing but love and laughter between them. And of course, capturing these raw, emotional, and sometimes hilarious moments is why I love what I do.
Despite the heat, we found shady spots that gave us the perfect soft light, letting their love take center stage. We also did a few full sun photos because they’re so pretty! We built in breaks to cool off, ensuring everyone stayed comfortable and happy.
We let the girls hang out inside (in the A/C) while we photographed the groomsmen next.
then the bridesmaids…
With the sun high in the sky and guests equipped with fans, Erika and Eric’s ceremony was nothing short of breathtaking. Surrounded by towering trees and the love of their closest friends and family, they exchanged vows that had everyone tearing up—myself included. There was laughter, there were sniffles, and most importantly, there was that unmistakable feeling of ‘this is it.’
What made their ceremony even more special? The presence of so many little ones, running around barefoot, giggling as they watched their favourite grown-ups say ‘I do.’ It was a reminder that weddings aren’t just about two people coming together—they’re about entire families blending, about generations witnessing a new beginning.
Then it was onto cocktail hour + reception! The White Poplar has, quite possibly, my favourite space for cocktail hour and reception. The flow between covered and open air, sitting and standing areas, and mingling opportunities just feels so nice! Something about it is just so perfect for guests to connect and socialize.
After the ceremony, guests were treated to an unforgettable cocktail hour featuring live music (because let’s be honest, nothing sets the mood quite like a great band). With signature drinks in hand, everyone mingled under the shade, catching up, sharing stories, and gearing up for what would be an epic reception.
The best part? Erika and Eric were fully present—no rushed photos, no stress, just soaking in every moment with the people who matter most. I always encourage couples to be intentional about enjoying their cocktail hour, and these two nailed it!
When I say this was a party, I mean it. From the moment Erika and Eric made their grand entrance, the energy in the room was off the charts. Heartfelt toasts that had everyone laughing and crying, a packed dance floor from the first song, and the kind of dance moves that deserved their own highlight reel.
We also made sure to step out for some sunset portraits, but first, a pitstop to the chickens! When Erika + Eric heard The White Poplar added chickens (and an adorable coop that matched the bridal cottage) they had to stop and see them!
Erika and Eric’s wedding wasn’t just about the details (though, let’s be real, every detail was chef’s kiss perfect). It was about the feeling—the unfiltered joy, the deep connection, the absolute blast that everyone had from start to finish.
As the night went on, the music got louder, the laughter got bigger, and the love in the room only grew. By the time the shots came out it was clear—this wasn’t just a wedding; it was the beginning of a lifetime of incredible + hilarious memories!
Some weddings just stick with you, and Erika and Eric’s is one I won’t forget anytime soon. From their rock-paper-scissors moment to the non-stop dance party, every part of their day was a reflection of who they are—fun, deeply connected, and surrounded by the most amazing people.
And if you’re planning a summer wedding and worried about the heat? Don’t stress—I’ve got you. With strategic breaks, shaded portraits, and a focus on keeping things fun and relaxed, you’ll have the best day ever, no matter the temperature.
To Erika and Eric—thank you for letting me be part of your incredible day. It was an honor to capture every laugh, every happy tear, and every unforgettable moment. Cheers to forever!
