Mikayla + Spencer’s summer engagement session was ALL them. We started our session in Spencer’s barley field that he was so proud of and it did not disappoint. Just outside the Winnipeg city limits, the views from this Manitoba farm was so gorgeous. Classic big prairie skies, golden fields, and two incredibly fun and wildly in-love humans.
Mik’s boots were definitely a favourite of the session, even better? They’re her wedding shoes! A wedding trend I am loving right now is wearing white boots or cowboy boots with your wedding dress. We’re going to recreate a few of these photos next August at their boho vintage wedding right here on the same Manitoba farm that means so much to them.
We spent some time walking around Spencer’s family property, which includes the lovely Miss Millie’s Flower Farm, a U-pick flower farm right here in Manitoba! If you haven’t been before, I highly recommend checking it out, they have such beautiful flowers and makes for a really fun friend date (or date date). The golden hour sun just hit the flower fields so beautifully and we spent some time just hanging out, chatting about their upcoming wedding and trying to catch some chickens.
Of course, what engagement session is complete without a champagne pop to celebrate! The trick to a solid champagne pop is to shake it A LOT, then shake while you’re both taking off the cork and spraying!
They also included their adorable German Shepherd, Hunter, in their engagement photos – which of course, I LOVED. He was such a sweetheart and did so well (despite these crazy Manitoba mosquitos trying to eat him alive!) I always recommend bringing your dog to your engagement session (and wedding) because they’re such an important part of our families! Its also really helpful if you can bring someone to keep them company or have something for them to do while you take a few photos without your furry family member.
The reason golden hour and sunset photos are ALWAYS worth including on your wedding day, and engagement session:
The Manitoba prairies really show off in the summer, giving us absolutely stunning golden hours.
Mik + Spencer also wanted to include a bit more of themselves, and make their session unique to them, so we did a few photos with their dirt bike! Its details like this that make your engagement sessions to special to you and create memories, not just photos.
Honestly this engagement session was an absolute dream, we had a blast, and Spencer admitted it was not as painful as he was expecting haha! I can’t wait to come back out in less than a year to photograph Mike + Spencer’s intimate, boho vintage wedding.
