June kicked off with a fantastic engagement session with Carly and Tanner at Beaudry Provincial Park here in Manitoba. The park’s beautiful scenery made it the perfect spot to capture their love for the prairies + being outside!
Carly + Tanner met me at Beaudry Park almost a full year before their wedding date, wanting photos just for them that captured their love and relationship authentically. Their chemistry was undeniable and their laughter was contagious! The way they interacted, so naturally and joyfully, made my job both easy and fun. I always ask my couples ahead of time what music they’re into, so the soundtrack for this shoot was anything Morgan Wallen!
Their vision for the shoot was a mix of lots of laughter, and some intimate romance, their only request that it all take place in some prairie grasses. Beaudry Park offered us a mix of stunning landscapes, from wide-open prairies to the peaceful riverbank and gorgeous trails. It gave us plenty of great backdrops to work with, giving some variety to their gallery.
Late May and Early June is a great time to do a photoshoot at Beaudry Park because you get all the summer foliage and aesthetic, without too many mosquitos or ticks! I don’t normally shoot here again until the Fall because it can get a little wild bug-wise in July and August.
I really loved that Carly and Tanner chose neutral outfits that paired well together, and fit in with a walk at Beaudry Park! Choosing outfits they could move in easily that they might actually wear to the park on a different day helped tell the story authentically. When it comes to colour, you want to stand out from your surroundings, but still look like you belong there. Which they nailed! At the end of the day, I want you to feel like yourself when you look back at these photos, and part of that is wearing what most feels like you!
Most of this shoot was candid, leaving Carly and Tanner to just do their thing for a bit! Even if you think you might be awkward, I promise it’s not as scary as it sounds! I love giving couples direction and am there if you need more but it’s also pretty cool to see yourself exactly as you were. Allowing extra space and time to just be is what gives you those candids you love so much!
